Auburn Hills, MI (My Sportsbook) - The Detroit Shock will reportedly start the 2005 season without star player and team captain Swin Cash, who is still recovering from a major knee injury. Cash missed the final three games of the 2004 regular season and the entire Eastern Conference semifinal series against New York because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee. The Detroit News reported that Cash will miss the first three games of the new season and will start the year on the injured list. The former UConn standout is expected to return to the hardwood by June 3. Cash averaged 16.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists last season. In 2004, Cash became one of only five women to have won an NCAA Championship, a WNBA Championship and an Olympic gold medal, as she was on the United States team that won gold in Athens. Ayana Walker is expected to start at small forward in place of Cash.
