Washington, DC (My Sportsbook) - Wes Obermueller retired the first 19 batters and finished with eight scoreless innings of two-hit ball to lead the
Milwaukee Brewers to an 8-2 victory over Washington at RFK Stadium. Obermueller (1-0) was perfect through 6 1/3 innings before Jamey Carroll slapped a base hit into right field with one out in the seventh. The righthander tossed a 1-2-3 eighth before giving way to Ricky Bottalico, who surrendered a two-run homer to Nick Johnson with two outs in the ninth. Carlos Lee belted a three-run homer and Clark went 4-for-5 with a solo shot for Milwaukee, which snapped a three-game skid. Washington had won its previous three games.
Final Score: Philadelphia 7, St. Louis 5
Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - Bobby Abreu homered for the eighth time in nine games and drove in a pair of runs, as the Philadelphia Phillies downed the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-5, in the opener of a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park. Abreu, the reigning NL Player of the Week, now has 11 homers on the season. Pat Burrell and Ryan Howard also homered for the Phillies, who won for the third time in four games. Cory Lidle (3-3) got the victory, allowing four runs -- one earned -- in six innings. Albert Pujols went 3-for-5 with two runs batted in for the Cardinals, who lost for just the second time in six games.
Final Score: Chicago 4, Pittsburgh 3
Pittsburgh, PA (My Sportsbook) - Derrek Lee went 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs, including a two-run blast in the top of the ninth inning which powered the Chicago Cubs to a 4-3 victory over Pittsburgh in the first of a two-game series at PNC Park. Jason Bay and Rob Mackowiak each hit solo home runs in the sixth inning to put the Pirates up 3-1, but Jose Mesa (0-2) blew his first save in 24 opportunities dating back to last season as Pittsburgh saw a two- game win streak come to a halt.
Final Score: New York 2, Cincinnati 1
Flushing, NY (My Sportsbook) - Kaz Matsui's two-run homer in the seventh inning gave New York the lead and the Mets held on for a 2-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds at Shea Stadium. Matsui's homer was his only hit of the game and turned a one-run deficit into a one-run lead. New York had only seven hits in the game, but it was enough to give the club its second straight win. Joe Randa ended 1-for-3 and scored the only run for the Reds, who have dropped three in a row, including the first two of this three-game set. Cincinnati managed only five hits and fell to 2-4 on its seven-game road trip.
Final Score: Houston 3, Arizona 0
Houston, TX (My Sportsbook) - Roy Oswalt threw eight shutout innings to lead the Houston Astros to a 3-0 victory over Arizona in the opener of a three-game series at Minute Maid Park. Jose Vizcaino drove in two runs and Adam Everett added an RBI to help the Astros win their third straight game. Houston has posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time since last June after beating the Giants, 9-0, on Sunday behind a shutout by Brandon Backe. Oswalt (5-4), who is 4-0 in four career starts against the Diamondbacks, allowed five hits and struck out eight while walking just one. Arizona's Javier Vazquez (4-3) threw seven innings of one-run ball, but was the hard- luck loser.
Final Score: Colorado 9, San Francisco 4
Denver, CO (My Sportsbook) - Todd Greene belted a two-run homer and Matt Holliday and Dustan Mohr added solo shots as the Colorado Rockies downed the San Francisco Giants, 9-4, in the opener of a three-game series at Coors Field. Greene, Mohr and Clint Barmes each finished with two RBI for the Rockies, who snapped a two-game skid and won for the third time in seven games. Joe Kennedy (2-4) picked up the win, allowing four runs and eight hits in five innings. Lance Niekro, Mike Matheny and Ray Durham each had three hits, but the Giants still lost their third straight contest. Niekro finished with two RBI while Durham and Matheny each drove in a run.
Final Score: San Diego 3, Atlanta 2
San Diego, CA (My Sportsbook) - Khalil Greene drove in the winning run with an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning off of Atlanta closer Danny Kolb, who wasted a great outing by John Smoltz as the Padres rallied to defeat the Braves, 3-2, at Petco Park. Smoltz tossed an eight-inning gem and allowed one run on four hits, but watched as Kolb (1-4) blew it. Entering the ninth inning with a 2-1 lead, Kolb walked Ryan Klesko on four pitches and gave up a single to Brian Giles that moved Klesko to third. A grounder by Phil Nevin allowed Klesko to come home for the tying run before a single by Ramon Hernandez and an intentional walk to Sean Burroughs loaded the bases. Greene then stepped up and blooped a single into shallow left field for the game- winning run.
Final Score: Los Angeles 14, Florida 5
Los Angeles, CA (My Sportsbook) - Olmedo Saenz hit a three-run homer and finished with five RBI, Cesar Izturis finished 5-for-6 with two runs and Jeff Kent added four runs batted in to lead Los Angeles to a 14-5 victory over Florida at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers banged out a season-high 19 hits to go along with a season best in run production. Dodgers starter Derek Lowe (3-4) threw 6 2/3 innings for the win. Lowe was charged with three runs on four hits over 6 2/3 innings. Carlos Delgado hit a two-run homer for Florida, which has lost four of its last five games.
