Calgary, AB (My Sportsbook) - Calgary Stampeders defensive lineman DeVone Claybrooks announced his retirement on Wednesday, and was named the club's defensive line coach. "I want to thank the Calgary Stampeders organization for three great seasons," said Claybrooks. "Football is my passion and the Stampeders and Alouettes gave me the opportunity to do something I loved every day. Moving into the coaching ranks is a natural progression in my career. "My goal was to coach and to be able to stay in Calgary, so I'm obviously thrilled." Claybrooks, who was brought back for 2011 on a one-year deal, participated in 16 games and recorded 36 tackles with one sack and one forced fumble. He racked up 162 tackles and 14 sacks in five CFL seasons with Montreal and Calgary. The Ohio native played for the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002. "It was a pleasure watching DeVone act as player/coach last season," said Calgary head coach and general manager John Hufnagel. "He took the time every practice to work with our young up-and-coming players. He has passion for the game and he's a great addition to our staff."
