Hamilton, ON (My Sportsbook) - The Hamilton Tiger-Cats acquired All-Star and Grey Cup-winning quarterback Henry Burris from the Calgary Stampeders in exchange for quarterback Kevin Glenn, offensive lineman Mark Dewit and a conditional draft pick in 2013.
"Henry Burris is a proven winner. He's a very athletic quarterback with an incredibly strong arm that will bring leadership and experience to our team," said Ticats general manager Bob O'Billovich on Tuesday. "Henry possesses all the attributes that we are looking for as the leader of our offence and we're very excited to see him in Black and Gold."
The 36-year-old Oklahoma native and Temple product signed on with Calgary in 1997, then after landing in Saskatchewan in 2000, trips through the NFL and NFL Europe and another stint with the Riders in 2003 and '04, Burris landed with the Stamps in 2005 and stayed for seven seasons.
Burris departs Calgary as the franchise's all-time leader in passing yards (32,191), touchdowns (203), attempts (3,677) and completions (2,267). He led the Stamps to a CFL title in 2008 and was named the league's most outstanding player in 2010.
"I'm excited to be coming to a first class organization like the Tiger-Cats and looking forward to playing in front of one of the best fan bases in the league," Burris said. "This team has a very bright future and Im eager to be a part of it. My family and I would like to thank the Stampeders organization and their fans for everything they have done for us during my career in Calgary."
Glenn finished 2011 with 3,963 yards passing, 19 touchdowns and 17 interceptions while connecting on 62.9 percent of his passes for the 8-10 Ticats -- who toppled defending champ Montreal before losing to Winnipeg in the East Finals.
In 186 games over 11 CFL seasons with the Riders, Bombers and Ticats, the 32- year-old Detroit native has passed for 32,446 yards, 179 TDs and 128 interceptions. He led Winnipeg to a Grey Cup crown in 2007.
"Kevin Glenn has thrown for 5,000 yards in a season twice and he has proven to be one of the best quarterbacks in this league," said Stamps head coach and GM Jon Hufnagel. "It's also exciting to bring Mark Dewit into the fold, a local kid who did an excellent job filling in at centre last season with Hamilton and will start training camp competing at that position."
Dewit is a four-year pro originally drafted by Toronto in 2008.
