Lawrence, KS (My Sportsbook) - Kansas will introduce Charlie Weis as its new head football coach during a press conference on Friday.

Weis takes over for Turner Gill, who was fired on November 27 after going 5-19 overall and 1-16 against the Big 12 in just two seasons with the school.

Gill signed a five-year, $10 million contract in December 2009.

Collegiately, the 55-year-old Weis is most notably known for spending five seasons as head coach at Notre Dame. With the Irish, Weis compiled a 35-27 mark, and led the school to BCS appearances in each of his first two seasons.

But the Irish went just 16-21 in Weis' last three years, and Notre Dame fired him after a 6-6 season in 2009.

Weis moved on to the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs in 2010 as an offensive coordinator, and spent this past season with the Florida Gators as their offensive coordinator.

Before becoming the head coach at Notre Dame, Weis spent two seasons as the offensive coordinator of the New York Jets from 1998-1999, and four years as the offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots from 2000-2004 where he won three Super Bowl rings.

Weis will become the 37th head football coach in Kansas history.
