Washington, DC (My Sportsbook) - Michael Adams has resigned from his post as head coach of the Washington Mystics to take a job as an assistant at the University of Maryland. "The Washington Mystics would like to thank Michael Adams for his contributions over the past season and for leading our team to the playoffs," said team spokeswoman Susan O'Malley. Adams was named head coach of the Mystics on February 17, 2004. He led Washington to the playoffs with a 17-17 record. He joined the Mystics organization following a career in basketball that spanned over 20 years. He spent 11 seasons in the NBA with the Sacramento Kings, Washington Bullets, and the Denver Nuggets before finishing his career with the Charlotte Hornets following the 1995-96 season. In his two stints with Washington as a player, Adams was a fan favorite, and was named to the NBA All-Star team in 1992. In his new position, Adams will be reunited with Gary Williams, his former collegiate coach at Boston College from 1982-85. In other news, Washington traded its 13th pick in the first round of the WNBA Draft to Detroit for forward-center Iciss Tillis. Tillis was selected in the first round (11th overall) of the 2004 WNBA Draft.
