Maui, HI (My Sportsbook) - Kentucky punter Glenn Pakulak was named this year's recipient of the Mosi Tatupu Award, given to college football's National Special Teams Player of the Year. He will receive the award at the Maui Quarterback Club annual dinner in January and will be recognized at halftime of the Hula Bowl Maui on February 1, 2003. "It's a great honor to be recognized as the special teams player of the year," Pakulak said. "Field position is so huge and to help the team turn around from 2-9 (in 2001) to 7-5 this year was great. Being a part of that (turnaround) is very special." Pakulak broke the school's single-season record with a 45.6-yard punting average. The senior kicker also set Kentucky's career punting record with a 44.4-yard average. In addition to possessing a powerful leg, Pakulak was also extremely accurate with his punts. He placed 31-of-66 kicks inside the 20-yard line without having them go into the end zone and 14 of his punts landed inside the 10-yard line without crossing the goal line. Pakulak also finished the season with nine touchbacks. Pakulak was a finalist for the Ray Guy Award, which goes to the nation's top punter.
