Colorado Springs, CO (My Sportsbook) - Former WNBA president Val Ackerman has been elected as president of USA Basketball for the 2005-08 quadrennium. Ackerman had been the only president in the WNBA's eight years until stepping down in February, and will now become the first female president in the history of USA Basketball. "I am honored and excited to assume this position and I look forward to working with the USA Basketball Board of Directors and staff to build on the long-standing success of the organization's competitive programs and to find new ways to continue the growth of the game of basketball," Ackerman said in a statement. Ackerman has been associated with USA Basketball in a number of positions since 1990. She also serves on the executive committee of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. |
