Cordoba, Argentina (My Sportsbook) - Sergio Aguero scored twice, Lionel Messi had two assists and Argentina beat Costa Rica, 3-0, on Monday night to advance to the quarterfinals of the Copa America. Argentina tied its first two games against Colombia and Bolivia, and needed a win against Costa Rica in its final game in Group A to secure an appearance in the knockout stage. Aguero fired Argentina in front just before halftime and then Messi set up his second goal early in the second half. Messi picked up his second assist in the match when Angel Di Maria ran onto a through ball to score the final goal. Argentina finished second in the group, and will play the second-place team in Group C - either Chile, Peru or Uruguay - in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Costa Rica finished third, and has to wait for the results from the other two groups to see if it advanced. The top two third-place teams also advance. Colombia won Group A, and will play a third-place group finisher Saturday. |
