Dubai, United Arab Emirates (My Sportsbook) - Former Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro announced his retirement from the game on Saturday, citing knee trouble that will prevent him from continuing his career. The 37-year-old spent the past year in Dubai with Al Ahli after leaving Juventus, but he was unable to complete the season as he missed the last seven games with the knee injury. Doctors have advised Cannavaro to call time on his career because of the injury, and he will now take up a role as technical adviser with Al Ahli. Cannavaro was named the 2006 FIFA World Player of the Year after serving as Italy's captain during their run to the 2006 World Cup title.
