New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - The final rounds of the 2011 NFL Draft were completed on Saturday, with rounds four through seven in the books.
Rice defensive end Cheta Ozougwu was taken by the Houston Texans with the 254th selection, and will be remembered in league lure as the latest "Mr. Irrelevant," the moniker given annually to the draft's final pick.
"No matter what the outcome was going to be, either it was free agency, the fifth-round pick, or the last pick, I just wanted the opportunity to play the game I love. I am really thankful it was given to me." said Ozougwu, who admitted he joked with a roommate about the possibility of being the last pick in the draft several weeks ago.
The selection was the last league transaction for the foreseeable future, as the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals granted the league's motion for a temporary stay of the order lifting the lockout on Friday.
Saturday proceeded as normal, however, and the final day of the NFL's 75th annual draft began with the Carolina Panthers taking Brandon Hogan, a 5-foot-10 defensive back out of West Virginia.
Roy Helu, passed over on the first two days, was snagged a little later by the Washington Redskins with the 105th overall pick. The Nebraska running back rushed for 1,245 yards with 11 touchdowns last season.
Following in the footsteps of noted alumnus and former Eagle running back Wilbert Montgomery, Abilene Christian wideout Edmond Gates went to Miami with the 14th pick in the fourth round.
Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi, fresh off a stellar senior season, went to the Chiefs at the number four slot of the fifth round (135th overall).
Diminutive but productive running backs at the college level, Jacquizz Rodgers of Oregon State and Dion Lewis of Pittsburgh, were picked by the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles with the 145th and 149th picks, respectively.
Penn State's all-time leading rusher, Evan Royster, will be playing in the nation's capital after the Redskins made him the 177th overall pick -- 12th in the sixth round.
Greg McElroy, who quarterbacked Alabama to the 2009 BCS title, was chosen by the New York Jets with the fifth pick (208th overall) of the seventh and final round.
With the 235th pick, the Dolphins secured Montana defensive back Jimmy Wilson, who returned to school last season after a three-year hiatus due to a murder charge. The NCAA granted Wilson one more year of eligibility after he was eventually acquitted.
