Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - Team USA had another winning weekend on the Korean Air ISU World Cup Circuit at its second stop in Quebec, bringing home seven medals (one gold, four silver and two bronze) bringing their two week World Cup medal total to 17.
On Saturday, Katherine Reutter (Champaign, Ill.) took silver in the ladies1500m, finishing with a time of 2:20.944, behind World Cup leader Yang Zhou (CHN) winning the distance at 2:20.893.
Lana Gehring (Glenview, Ill.) had back-to-back gold weekends, winning the first of two ladies'1000m finals with a time of 1:34.675, ahead of Ariana Fontana (ITA) 1:34.866.
Anthony Lobello (Tallahassee, Fla.) took bronze in the first of two men's 1000m finals. Lobello finished at 1:28.009, behind World Cup leader Thibault Fauconnet (FRA) 1:27.226 and Yongiun Yu (CHN) 1:27.948.
Robert Lawrence (Gaffney, S.C.) had an impressive day of racing, placing second in the 1500m B Final with a time of 2:35.094, behind Jack Whelbourne (GBR) at 2:34.898.
On Sunday, Reutter skated to a silver in the second of two ladies' 1000m (2) finals, securing the lead in World Cup rankings in the 1000m distance.
Travis Jayner (Midland, Mich.) also brought home a silver on Sunday in the 1000m (2) men's finals with a time of 1:26.310, in a close race behind today's winner Charles Hamelin (CAN), finishing at 1:26.226.
The ladies relay squad (Reutter, Gehring, Jessica Smith (Melvindale, Mich.), and Morgan Izykowski (Bay City , Mich.) took bronze with a time of 4:14.380, behind China (4:13.006) and Canada (4:13.594).
The men's relay team (Jeff Simon (Las Vegas, N.V.), Simon Cho (Laurel, Md.) Jayner and Kyle Carr (Peach Tree City, Ga.) took silver with a time of 6:53.661, behind World Cup leader Canada (6:51.806).
ARCHERY: Gator Cup Names First-Ever Champions
The Easton Newberry Sports Complex in Newberry, Fla. with its wide, flat field and warm, calm Florida weather was a fitting spot for the inaugural Gator Cup as archers vied for spots on the junior and senior U.S. national teams.
Jacob Wukie (Oak Harbor, Ohio) and Butch Johnson (Woodstock, Conn.) continued to best one another and tie, with Wukie eventually pulling ahead of Johnson by two set points to win the bronze medal. On the other side of the field, Kristin Braun (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) had a more decisive victory over opponent Heather Koehl (Sheboygan Falls, Wis.), earning six set points to clinch the bronze medal in a shutout. Rodger Willett, Jr. (Glouchester, Va.) and Braden Gellenthien (Woodbridge, Va.) frequently tied one another and eventually went to a single-arrow shoot-off. Following a caliper measurement, Gellenthien claimed the bronze. On the women's side, the bronze match between Sally Seipp (Peoria, Ill.) and Erika Anschutz (Hamilton, Ohio) was also closely contested, with an eventual 5-5 tie being resolved by a ten from Anschutz, who won the bronze.
Brady Ellison (Glendale, Ariz.) and Jake Kaminski (Edgewater, Fla.) competed for four ends, Ellison took gold after a four set-point victory, 6-2, giving Kaminski the silver.
Khatuna Lorig (West Hollywood, Calif.) also won her gold medal with the same 6-2 score against Miranda Leek (Des Moines, Iowa) who claimed the silver. Compound archers Reo Wilde (Pocatello, Idaho) and Ben Cleland (Swanton, Ohio) battled it out, tying the first set, and then having a give-and take for four more sets, with Wilde eventually claiming a 6-4 gold medal victory over Cleland. The compound women also competed for five sets, keeping spectators excited as Kailey Johnston (Hamilton, Ohio) eventually succeeded in winning the gold after a 7-3 victory over silver medalist Christie Colin (Ransomville, N.Y.).
BADMINTON: USA Badminton Athletes Win Two Gold and Five Bronze Individual Medals at the 2010 Pan American Badminton Championships
Fresh off the heels of their silver medal winning team performance at the 2010 Pan American Badminton Championships in Curitiba, Brazil, USA Badminton athletes won two gold and five bronze medals in the individual competition on Tuesday, Oct. 26.
Led by 2010 Youth Olympian Cee Ketpura's (Orange, Calif.) gold medal in women's singles, USA Badminton athletes also won gold in men's doubles as Vincent Nguy (Silver Spring, Md.) and
Sameera Gunatileka (Olney, Md.) were victorious. In women's singles, Rena Wang (Arcadia, Calif.) won bronze, while Nicholas Jinadasa (Long Beach, Calif.) and Sattawat Pongnairat (Long Beach, Calif.) were also bronze medalists in men's singles. The women's doubles team of Rena Wang and Iris Wang (Arcadia, Calif.) and mixed doubles team of Keptura and Pongnairat took home third-place hardware as well.
BEACH VOLLEYBALL: Kessy, Ross Earn Bronze Medal in China
The U.S. women's beach volleyball team of Jen Kessy (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and April Ross (Newport Beach, Calif.) put bronze medals in their trick-or-treat bags on Sunday at the US$190,000 Sanya Open, part of the SWATCH FIVB World Tour, in Sanya, China.
The sixth-ranked Kessy and Ross defeated Brazil's 10th-seeded Maria Clara Salgado and Carolina Salgado, 21-19, 21-14.
The Brazilians had won two of the three meetings this year against the Americans, and started the match on a strong 6-2 start. But Kessy and Ross turned a 10-7 deficit into a 17-13 lead behind great hustle plays by Kessy. From there the teams mostly traded points before the U.S. won the first set 21-19.
BOBSLED: U.S. Bobsled National Team Named
After reviewing combine test scores, push championship results and team selection race times, the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation team selection committee named the 2010 national bobsled team that will compete on the World Cup circuit.
The following pilots qualified for the women's bobsled national team starting the 2010-2011 season: 2010 Olympic bronze medalist Erin Pac (Farmington, Conn.), 2006 Olympic silver medalist Shauna Rohbock (Park City, Utah) and 2010 Olympian Bree Schaaf (Bremerton, Wash.).
2010 Olympic gold medalist Steven Holcomb (Park City, Utah) will lead the men's bobsled national team. Holcomb's push team, including an alternate, will be 2010 Olympic gold medalist Justin Olsen (San Antonio, Texas), 2010 Olympian Steve Langton (Melrose, Mass.), 2010 Olympic gold medalist Curt Tomasevicz (Shelby, Neb.) and Laszlo Vandracsek (Phoenix, Ariz.).
FIGURE SKATING: Czsiny Wins Gold in Canada; Rippon Earns Bronze
2009 U.S. Champion Alissa Czisny (Sylvania, Ohio) won gold at Skate Canada in Kingston, Ontario over the weekend with a winning free skate that included five clean triple jumps, as well as a stunning closing layback spin that earned +3 grades of execution (GOEs) from eight of the nine judges. Adam Rippon (Clarks Summit, Pa.) won men's bronze while Madison Chock (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Greg Zuerlein (Northville, Mich.) took home bronze in ice dancing.
ROWING: Wind Stops Racing, But Not Before Broughton and Grobler Advance
On the first day of racing at the 2010 World Rowing Championships in Karapiro, New Zealand October 31, the weather became the bigger story.
After only two events and five heats, racing was called off for the morning after the start of the first heat of the lightweight men's double sculls.
In a press briefing shortly after, FISA executive director Matt Smith announced that a major storm was approaching that will threaten racing both Thursday and Friday and that the window for racing was closing.
Fortunately for the lightweight women's double sculls team of Abby Broughton (Tetonia, Idaho) and Ursula Grobler (Lake Stevens, Wash.), all three heats of the lightweight women's double event were raced. Broughton and Grobler won and advanced.
Racing resumed on Monday with officials closely monitoring the storm system.
SHOOTING: USA Picks Up Three Medals at ISSF World Cup Final
At the 2010 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Final for rifle and pistol in Munich, Germany, the USA delegation put on a solid performance with three medals and six finals appearances.
Starting off the red, white and blue success was Sgt. 1st Class Daryl Szarenski (Seale, Ala.) who won the Men's 50m Free Pistol competition on Friday, Oct. 29.
In the Women's 10m Air Rifle event, Jamie Beyerle (Lebanon, Pa.) won a bronze medal with 396 match points and a strong final of 103.2 points, for 499.2 total points. Beyerle entered the final in the lower half of the field and shot her way up with outstanding 10.7s and 10.6s.
Beyerle also won the gold medal in Women's 50m Rifle Three Position.
During the match, Beyerle shot an amazing 590 points to qualify in first place for the finals. Beyerle was on top of her game as she fired an impressive 100.7 points in the final to win the competition with 690.7 total points.
SOCCER: U.S. Women Defeat Guatemala 9-0; Qualify for Semifinals at CONCACAF Women's World Cup Qualifying
The U.S. Women's National Team earned its second consecutive dominating victory on Oct. 30 at the 2010 CONCACAF Women's World Cup Qualifying tournament in Cancun, Mexico defeating Guatemala 9-0 as Amy Rodriguez (Lake Forest, Calif.) recorded a hat trick while Abby Wambach (Rochester, N.Y.) and Megan Rapinoe (Redding, Calif.) scored twice each.
The U.S. broke through in the 21st minute as Heather O'Reilly (East Brunswick, N.J.) hammered a shot from the top of the penalty box that Guatemala goalkeeper Ana Lucia Spross saved with a great dive to her right, but the lightning quick Rodriguez was first to the rebound. Rodriguez pounded her shot into the net from two yards out past the scrambling Spross.
Rapinoe made it 2-0 less than a minute later as Spross spilled her knuckling long range shot into the lower right corner.
Wambach scored the first of her two goals, which came in a three minute span, in the 29th minute off a free kick from the left wing.
Rapinoe curved in a perfect cross and Wambach powered a header past Spross, who had no chance.
The U.S. defeated Haiti 5-0 earlier in the week. qualifying the Americans for the semifinals with one first round game left to play.
That match takes place on Nov. 1 when the USA and Costa Rica square off to determine first place in Group B.
VOLLEYBALL: U.S. Women Sweep Germany at Worlds
Behind Logan Tom's (Salt Lake City, Utah) match-high 19 points, the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team remained undefeated through the third day of the FIVB World Championship first round Pool C after defeating Germany 25-23, 26-24, 25-17 in a battle of undefeated squads Sunday evening in Matsumoto, Japan.
Team USA, ranked second in the world by the FIVB, improves to 3-0 in the Pool C and is the last remaining undefeated team in the group.
Germany, which is now 1-3 against the Americans in 2010, falls to 2-1 in the tournament. After an off-day on Nov. 1, the U.S. concludes the first round with matches versus Kazakhstan on Nov. 2 at 6:45 p.m. Japan Time (2:45 a.m. Pacific Time) and against NORCECA rival Cuba on Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. Japan Time (2 a.m. Pacific Time).

BOBSLED: Park City, Utah will host America's next wave of bobsled stars this week at the USA Bobsled Junior World Championships beginning Nov. 8.
FENCING: Headlined by two-time Olympian Mariel Zagunis (Beaverton, Ore.), the U.S. contingent of fencers begin competition at the 2010 World Fencing Championships in Paris, France on Nov. 4.
Olympians Tim Morehouse (Bronx, N.Y.) and James Williams (Sacramento, Calif.) lead the men into the event which concludes on Nov. 13.
FIGURE SKATING: The next stop for U.S. figure skaters will be the Grand Prix Cup of China event to be held in Beijing Nov. 5-7.
ROWING: The 2010 World Rowing Championships continue through Nov. 7 in Lake Karapiro, New Zealand
SPEEDSKATING: America's top short track speedskaters return to the ice Nov. 6-7 to compete in the second stop of the 2010 American Cup in Cleveland, Ohio.
VOLLEYBALL: The U.S. Women's National Volleyball team continues competition at the FIVB World Championship tournament in Japan. The team will play Kazakhstan on Nov. 2 and Cuba on Nov. 3.
