New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - The New York Liberty announced on Wednesday that Pat Coyle has been named head coach. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed. Coyle took over as interim head coach of the Liberty after Richie Adubato was fired on July 3, 2004. The native of Philadelphia, Coyle posted a 13-10 overall record that helped the Liberty get back in the playoffs, including a surprising trip to the Eastern Conference Finals. "We are extremely proud to introduce Patty Coyle as the official head coach of the New York Liberty," said Carol Blazejowski, general manager. "We have great confidence in Patty's proven ability to lead our team, and believe her passion, commitment and knowledge of the women's game will help us reach our ultimate goal -- the WNBA championship." Coyle, who was an assistant with the Liberty since 1998, becomes the third head coach of the franchise. Coyle has also been successful in the college ranks, recording a 100-77 mark in 6 1/2 years as head coach at Loyola College. "I am extremely proud to be named head coach of the franchise that I have called my home for the past six years -- the New York Liberty and I'm grateful to Carol Blazejowski for showing confidence in my abilities," said Coyle. "I have very high expectations for myself and the Liberty."
