Real Madrid plays Sunday at Villareal hoping to reduce its deficit back to seven points. Valencia, last season's La Liga champion, also won Saturday, posting a 1-0 road win at Albacete. Valencia seems to have righted its ship and has now claimed three straight victories. Xisco scored the match's lone goal just several minutes from time. Xisco was set up by a nice run down the right wing by Carlos Marchena. Marchena fed Xisco in front of the net for the easy goal and a 1-0 victory for Valencia. Claudio Ranieri's side must now immediately turn its attention to a huge midweek Champions League match in Germany against Werder Bremen. Last season's UEFA Cup champion needs to win in order to qualify for the next stage of this season's Champions League competition. Barcelona has already secured its spot in the next round of Europe's most prestigious club competition. Real Sociedad also won Saturday night in La Liga action, recording a 1-0 home victory over Real Betis. Darko Kovacevic scored the only goal of the game in the first half.
