Miami, FL (My Sportsbook) - Logan Morrison tripled twice, scored two times and drove in a run in support of five solid innings from Andrew Miller as Florida downed Atlanta, 6-1, to being a three-game set.
Chad Tracy had a key two-run double and Hanley Ramirez went 1-for-2 with a pair of runs scored, two walks, a stolen base and an RBI for the Marlins, who claimed their third win in a row and have now alternated three game winning and losing streaks over their last nine games.
Miller (1-0) allowed the lone run on seven hits while walking three and fanning six to pick up his first win since July 4 of last season. Four different hurlers came out of the bullpen to blank the visitors over the final four frames.
Kenshin Kawakami (1-10) took the loss after lasting only three innings in his first start since June 26. The right-hander yielded five runs on five hits and four walks while fanning two for the Braves, who lost a second straight and saw their lead over Philadelphia in the NL East trimmed to a single game after the Phillies blanked Milwaukee, 1-0, earlier in the night.
In the first inning, Cameron Maybin drew a leadoff walk and scored when Morrison followed with a triple down the right field line. Ramirez then doubled into the alley in left-center to drive in Morrison to make it 2-0 Florida.
Ramirez moved to third on a wild pitch but was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a Gaby Sanchez grounder to third.
In the Atlanta second, Alex Gonzalez singled with one out, advanced to third on a David Ross double and scored on a two-out single by Kawakami, who drove in his first career run to cut the lead to 2-1.
However, Morrison opened the third with another triple and stayed put when Ramirez walked. Dan Uggla struck out and Sanchez was intentionally walked to load the bases for Tracy, who laced his two-run double into right field to extend the hosts lead to 4-1. Mike Stanton was intentionally passed to reload the bases in front of Brad Davis, who knocked in Sanchez with a sacrifice fly to make it 5-1.
Scott Proctor took over for Kawakami in the fourth and retired the first two hitters before Ramirez walked, stole second and scored on an Uggla double.
The Marlins relief quartet of Will Ohman, Jose Veras, Leo Nunez and Burke Badenhop did not allow a hit, walked one and struck out five and faced only batter over the minimum.
