New Haven, CT (My Sportsbook) - Persistent rain forced the postponement of six first-round matches Sunday at the $750,000 Pilot Pen Tennis event, a final hardcourt U.S. Open tune-up. Donald Young was leading Stephane Robert, 2-1, and Evgeny Korolev was beating Frederico Gil, 1-0, when rain halted play for the day. The other four matches never got started at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale. There is a total of 16 matches scheduled for Monday. American Mardy Fish, who lost to Roger Federer in the final of the Cincinnati Masters earlier Sunday, withdrew from this tournament citing fatigue. He was replaced in the draw by Radek Stepanek. Spain's Fernando Verdasco defeated American Sam Querrey in last year's finale here. The 2010 Pilot Pen champion will collect $93,630. The U.S. Open will commence next Monday.
