Orlando, FL (My Sportsbook) - Tiger Woods will defend his FedEx Cup title. The world No. 1 announced on his website Thursday that he will play in The Barclays next week. The event kicks off the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup playoffs for the top 125 players on the points list. Woods, who also won the first FedEx Cup in 2007, will have an uphill struggle to capture his third title. He ranks 108th on the points list and isn't playing at this week's Wyndham Championship. While it's unlikely he will drop out of the top 125, he could mathematically fall as low as 132nd by Sunday, according to the tour. The fields for the three playoffs events after The Barclays are pared down until there are only 30 players remaining for the Tour Championship. Last year, only seven players ranked outside the top 30 on the points list made it to the playoff finale. One of them was Heath Slocum, who entered the playoffs ranked 124th, but moved to No. 3 with an unlikely victory at The Barclays. Slocum poured in a 21-foot birdie putt on the last hole to win by a stroke. Among the players he edged out? Woods, who still went on to capture the playoffs title. The Barclays would mark Woods' 10th start of the season. He has yet to win. |
