New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Cappie Pondexter of the New York Liberty and Tina Thompson of the Los Angeles Sparks have been named the WNBA's Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week for games played August 9-15. Pondexter led the league in scoring during the period for averaging 29.5 points while leading the Liberty to a 2-0 record. The wins helped extend a franchise record eight-game winning streak that has locked up a playoff berth for the Liberty. She also tied for first in free throw percentage, converting 22-of-22 attempts. This is Pondexter's fourth weekly award for the 2010 season and ninth of her career. Thompson won the award for the first time in a Sparks uniform and was the fifth overall honor of her career. She was last recognized with the award in 2008 as a member of the now defunct Houston Comets. For the week, Thompson posted averages of 20.3 points, 10.7 rebounds,2.0 steals and 1.33 blocks as Los Angeles went 2-1 in its battle for a playoff spot. Her scoring average was third highest in the league and led the Western Conference.
