Phoenix, AZ (My Sportsbook) - Diana Taurasi hit two free throws with 3.7 seconds left and stole the ensuing inbounds pass to lead the Phoenix Mercury to a 97-96 win over the Chicago Sky. Taurasi finished with a team-high 35 points to go along with a career-best 11 assists for the Mercury, who have won two straight and sit firmly in second place in the Western Conference with a 12-13 record. Candice Dupree added 19 points, while Tangela Smith had 13 in the victory. Penny Taylor provided 11 points and six assists for Phoenix. Sylvia Fowles also had 35 points to go with eight rebounds for the Sky, who, at 12-15, sit in last place in the Eastern Conference after three straight losses. Jia Perkins added 23 points, while Epiphanny Prince had 14 in defeat. The Mercury trailed by three after a Prince free throw with 1:23 left, but Phoenix maintained possession after a missed three-point attempt, and Dupree's layup made it a one-point game with 56.7 ticks left. Phoenix had two unsuccessful possessions from that point, but held the Sky without a shot until DeWanna Bonner was fouled with 10.9 seconds to play. She hit both to put the Mercury ahead, 95-94, but Perkins came right back with a 16-foot jump shot with 5.6 seconds left. Out of a timeout, Taurasi was fouled with 3.7 ticks showing on the clock and hit both of her free throw attempts before stealing the ball back with 1.9 seconds left to secure the win.
