Seattle, WA (My Sportsbook) - Lauren Jackson ignited a spirited comeback with 33 points on 13-of-23 shooting to go with 11 rebounds, as the Seattle Storm erased an 18-point deficit and pulled out a 91-85 decision over the defending champion Phoenix Mercury for their 12th straight victory.
The win clinched the top seed in the Western Conference for the Storm, whose 21-2 record puts them 11 games ahead of 10-13 Phoenix.
Sue Bird and Tanisha Wright scored 16 and 14 points, respectively, with Bird dishing out seven assists and hitting two late jumpers that proved vital.
Diana Taurasi led the Mercury with 27 points, but like most of the club was held in check over the final 20 minutes after building a huge halftime lead.
These two teams met back on July 14, and it was Seattle that survived a three- overtime thriller.
The Mercury appeared poised to avenge that loss by jumping out to a 56-38 lead after two quarters, but they were held to a mere eight points in the third stanza as the hosts climbed to within 64-62 with 10 minutes to play.
Phoenix continued to struggle offensively in the fourth, failing to hit a field goal over the opening 4:55 of the stanza as the hosts built a 77-68 lead on a Camille Little layup with just under 5 1/2 minutes to play.
Seattle led from there, with Phoenix getting as close as 79-78 following DeWanna Bonner's three-point play with 2:38 remaining.
Bird, though, hit jumpers on two straight trips, and Jackson added a pair of buckets around Penny Taylor's three-pointer to make it a five-point game, 87-82, with under a minute left.
Taurasi was called for traveling on the next possession and the Storm held on from there to stay perfect at home this season.
