Colorado Springs, CO (My Sportsbook) - Our lead story is a pair of breakthrough performances by judo athlete Kayla Harrison (Wakefield, Mass.) and weightlifter Kendrick Farris (Shreveport, La.).

The 19-year-old Harrison made her third World Cup medal this year a gold one when she won the 78kg division at the Sao Paulo World Cup in Brazil on Sunday. In succession, Harrison beat 13-time World Cup medalist Amy Cotton (CAN), 2008 Olympic silver medalist Yalennis Castillo (CUB) and Mayra Aguiar (BRA) on Aguiar's home turf to win her first career World Cup.

Kendrick Farris (Shreveport, La.)won his first Pan American title and set a new American Record in the clean and jerk at the Pan Am Championships on Saturday in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Competing in the 85kg division, Farris had the best snatch of the event with a lift of 159kg - just one kilogram shy of his result at the 2008 Olympic Games. On his second clean and jerk, Farris broke his previous American Record of 202kg with his 203kg lift.

Although he had already guaranteed himself the gold medal, Farris went for a new Pan American Record of 211kg. Farris completed the clean, but just missed the jerk.

After winning both the snatch and clean and jerk portions, Farris' total was not only the highest at the event, but tied his previous American Record total of 362kg.

JUDO

The string of international successes continued on Saturday for Marti Malloy (San Jose, Calif.)when she earned her first World Cup medal - a bronze in the 57kg division - at the Sao Paulo World Cup.

The win is the third major international medal this year for Malloy who won the Belgian Ladies' Open in February and earned a silver medal at the Pan American Championships in April.

Malloy's bronze was the first A-Level medal for the 23-year-old who continued to show that she can compete with the best in the world as she defeated past World Cup medalists to earn her first qualifying points for the 2012 Olympic Games.

ROWING

The U.S. lightweight women's double sculls won gold Sunday to highlight the final day of racing at the 2010 Rowing World Cup in Bled, Slovenia. In total, the U.S. won three medals including bronze in the women's pair and women's double sculls.

After dominating the field in the preliminary races, the lightweight women's double sculls duo of Abby Broughton (Tetonia, Idaho) and Ursula Grobler (Pretoria, South Africa) took an early lead in the final and held it the entire length of the course to win gold. Broughton, a silver-medalist in last year's world championship lightweight women's quadruple sculls crew, and Grobler, who won the lightweight single sculls at NSR #1, finished more than five seconds ahead of Great Britain's 2009 bronze medalists Hester Goodsell and Sophie Hosking with a time of 7:07.75.

In the women's pair, defending world champions Erin Cafaro (Modesto, Calif.) and Susan Francia (Abington, Pa.) were edged out by China's Meng Li and Tong Li in a photo finish for the silver medal.

The women's double sculls crew of Kate Bertko (Oakland, Calif.) and Stesha Carle (Long Beach, Calif.) finished in third place in the final for the bronze medal.

SAILING

US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics' (USSTAG) Andy Horton (S. Burlington, Vt.) and James Lyne (Granville, Vt.) won a bronze medal in the 16-boat Star class at the Delta Lloyd Regatta, the fifth International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Sailing World Cup event in the 2009-2010 series. This was their second podium finish at a Sailing World Cup event in 2010: they also won a silver medal at US SAILING's 2010 Rolex Miami OCR in January.

SHOOTING

USA Shooting welcomed more than 400 competitors from 52 different countries for the 2010 ISSF World Cup at Fort Benning, Ga., and as expected Matt Emmons was the top American, claiming gold in the men's 3-position rifle to solidify his No.1 world ranking and finished third in the 50m rifle prone event.

Four other USA Shooters found their way onto the podium as well. The US Army Marksmanship Unit's Jason Parker earned a silver medal in 3-position, just behind Emmons in his first international meet of the year having just returned from a deployment to Afghanistan. Jamie Beyerle won a gold medal in the 50m rifle 3 position. US Army Marksmanship Unit's Eric Uptagrafft earned the silver medal in the Men's 50m Rifle Prone.

Rifle National Coach Dave Johnson is nothing but proud of his team's performance and looking forward to the World Shooting Championships this year in Munich. "We had a really good World Cup -- some of our young folks shooting to attain Minimum Qualifying Scores, senior veterans hitting the top of the podium, and we were in every final. We are contending everywhere," said Coach Johnson as he reflected on this year's showing.

In Men's 50m Pistol, US Army Marksmanship Unit's Sergeant First Class Daryl Szarenski managed a silver medal.

TRACK & FIELD

2010 World Indoor bronze medalist Chaunte Lowe set the American record in the women's high jump Sunday at the 21st Lausitzer International Athletics Meeting in Cottbus, Germany.

A three-time USA Outdoor champion, Lowe cleared 2.04m/6-8.25 to win the women's high jump and break the 22-year-old American record. The previous record of 2.03m/6-7.75 was set by Louise Ritter back in 1988. Lowe came into the competition at 1.81m/5-11.25 and jumped at every height in the progression. After a first attempt clearance at 2.01m/6-7, Lowe needed two attempts to clear 2.03m/6-7.75 before moving the bar up to 2.04m/6-8.25. It was on her third and final attempt that Lowe was able to clear 2.04m and claim the American record.

TRIATHLON

Up-and-coming triathletes Gwen Jorgensen and Gregory Billington led the way for Team USA Sunday with top-five finishes at the 10th FISU World University Championships in Valencia, Spain.

Jorgensen (Milwaukee, Wis.), who has only held her elite license since March, made a strong surge at the end to finish second in one hour, 55 minutes, 26 seconds, just seven seconds behind the female winner. A 2008 FISU competitor and member of Project 2016, Billington (Spokane, Wash.) crossed the line in 1:44:33 in fifth place.

The women finished in second in the team standings with 27 points, just ahead of Italy (27) and behind a strong Poland team (12).

VOLLEYBALL

BEACH: Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser won its third Swatch-FIVB World Tour event on Sunday, beating Spain's Adrian Gavira and Pablo Herrera in the final at the $190,000 Myslowice Open in Poland. Rogers and Dalhausser needed just over 36 minutes to post a 21-15, 21-13 championship victory. The win avenged a fourth-round loss to the Spaniards and earned them a total prize of $30,000.

The 2008 Olympic champions have won three of the four international events on the schedule (Brasilia, Brazil and Rome, Italy are the other titles) and both domestic AVP Tour events that have been played thus far (Fort Lauderdale and Santa Barbara). They'll return to the AVP Tour this weekend at Huntington Beach.

Brazil's Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca won this week's women's gold medal match in South Korea by defeating Americans Angie Akers and Tyra Turner in the Seoul finale, 21-11, 21-15. Jen Kessy and April Ross took the bronze.

The Swatch-FIVB Tour resumes June 7-14 with a Grand Slam double gender event in Moscow.

INDOOR: The U.S. Men's A2 Volleyball Team won its third straight Pan American Cup title on Saturday as it swept Argentina in the gold medal match, 25-23, 25-21, 30-28 on Saturday at Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The U.S. Men's A2 Team won the tournament with a 5-0 record while Jayson Jablonsky (Yorba Linda, Calif.), selected as the tournament's Most Valuable Player, helped lead the men to the title with 19 points on 15 kills (0.65 attack percentage), three blocks and the United States' only ace. Robert Tarr (Cape Canaveral, Fla.) added 13 points on 11 kills (0.48 attack percentage) and two blocks.

WRESTLING

Champions were crowned in the University and Junior World Team Trials in Greco- Roman and freestyle Friday and Saturday at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Champions in each weight class in the University World Team Trials position themselves for a trip to the University World Championships on Oct. 26-30 in Turin, Italy. Any wrestler who finishes in the top three at next month's U.S. World Team Trials in freestyle, and is eligible for the University division, can challenge the University World Team Trials champion for the spot on the University World Team. The Greco-Roman champions earn a trip to Italy. Champions in each weight class in the Junior World Team Trials advance to the Junior World Championships on July 20-25 in Budapest, Hungary.
