(My Sportsbook) -
New Orleans Hornets coach Paul Silas wants his team to learn from its mistakes. On November 16, the Hornets lost the
Atlanta Hawks at Philips Arena -- largely because they lived and died with the jump shot. As the two teams get ready to square off in the new Hive on Wednesday night, Silas wants his team to get the ball inside.
"I want to go right at them [Hawks] and exploit them inside," Silas said. "If we do that, I think we can shut them down pretty good. But, if we start casting up the jumpers and they get to running and begin making their outside shots, it could be a difficult night."
In the first game against Atlanta, the Hornets hoisted up 15 three-point attempts and sank only four. New Orleans shot 34.8 percent (32 of 92) from the floor and were outrebounded 53-46.
Glenn Robinson and Shareef Abdur-Rahim were a huge problem for New Orleans in the first meeting. Robinson scored 24 points, while Abdur-Rahim added 27 points and 17 rebounds to the 89-82 Atlanta win.
"They are like Chicago; some teams match up well against you," Jamal Mashburn told the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
The good news for the Hornets is that the Hornets have not taken good care of the basketball of late.
Atlanta snapped a three-game losing streak with a 119-116 overtime victory over the Seattle SuperSonics at Philips Arena on Tuesday. Robinson tallied a season-high 37 points and Abdur-Rahim chipped in with 31 as the Hawks overcame a season-high 27 turnovers.
Over the course of their three-game slide, the Hawks turned the ball over 53 times leading to 53 opposition points.
"Our carelessness with the ball," Atlanta coach Lon Kruger said, "is something we're not going to survive."
The Hornets hope that Atlanta's carelessness with the ball catches up to it on Wednesday.
