(My Sportsbook) - The
Minnesota Timberwolves won three of their four games this past week and, surprise, the team has Kevin Garnett to thank.
Over the past four games. Garnett has averaged 23.3 points, 16.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.50 steals. KG was rewarded for his efforts, as he was named Western Conference Player of the Week.
Garnett began his week with a 34-point, 22-rebound performance in a 110-106 overtime victory at Memphis. It marked the second time this season that Garnett collected at least 20 points and 20 rebounds in a game. Back on November 7 against Milwaukee, he had 28 points and a season-high 24 boards.
Garnett then reached double-digits in both scoring and rebounding in each of the next three contests.
The T'wolves' only loss during the stretch came at home against the New Jersey Nets on Saturday, 96-82.
Garnett made sure Minnesota didn't suffer back-to-back defeats Sunday at New York. Garnett had eight points and eight rebounds at the end of the first quarter, and 18 points and 11 rebounds by halftime to propel the Wolves to the 106-88 win. He finished with 25 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists and three steals in Minnesota's third straight road triumph.
"We played pretty bad against New Jersey. They really put a number on us. We had a team meeting this morning and made some adjustments as far as what we need to work on," Garnett said.
Garnett leads the NBA in double-doubles (13) and his average of 13.5 rebounds per game is currently second in the NBA, behind only Ben Wallace's 14.7 rpg average. Garnett is also first among forwards and 18th overall in assists at 5.3 per game.
The Wolves have moved above .500 on the season (8-7) despite Garnett's buddy, guard Wally Szczerbiak, being sidelined with a sprained little toe. Szczerbiak, who missed the first five games of the season with a foot injury, was placed on the injured list on November 20. He is eligible to return Friday at Utah, but head coach Flip Saunders doesn't feel the need to rush him back.
"Until we're comfortable that it's pretty much pain free, we're going to be very cautious with him," Saunders told the Star Tribune.
But the Wolves may be in desperate need of help soon. After hosting the Pacific Division-leading Sacramento Kings on Wednesday, Minnesota embarks on a six-game road trip that features games against the Lakers and Kings.
