(My Sportsbook) - This season was going to be different for Michael Jordan. Jordan and the Wizards brought in Jerry Stackhouse and Larry Hughes. Theoretically, Jordan was supposed to play a limited role, and basically enter the game after his other two stud guards put the opposition in the penalty. MJ was supposed to be efficient with his minutes and rest his 40-year-old creaky knee.
Now, the Wizards have dropped three straight games, most recently an ugly 85-74 setback to the previously unbeaten Memphis Grizzlies. This type of loss is very difficult for Jordan to sit idly by and watch.
"I'm not concerned about that right now," Jordan said when asked about protecting his knee. "I know they are. Doctors are supposed to be very conservative, especially with a guy who's about to turn 40.
"But I may not make 41. Who knows? I'd rather live in the moment. I'm a guy who lives for now. You can save all you want, but if you don't get to where you want to go . . . By the time you get there I may be healthy, but I may be playing golf in April or May, and that's not fun for me.
"If I feel good -- which I do feel -- I'd rather get on the court and play."
Coach Doug Collins says he has no immediate plans to start Jordan, but, in reality, that's probably not his decision. Jordan calls the shots, and anyone who believes otherwise is still putting teeth under their pillow.
"If we're winning, and other guys are playing well, I'll be over here cheering and wishing everybody the best," Jordan added. "But obviously we haven't been winning. Something has to be done."
Washington's next challenge is against Indiana on Tuesday night. The Pacers have won nine of their last 10 games and have been one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference thus far this season.
Indiana won three of four meetings with Washington last season. The Pacers have taken seven of the last eight matchups and 16 of the last 18 overall.
If there isn't a major turnaround with the Wizards over the next five or six games, look for Jordan to spend more time on the floor and less time as a cheerleader.
