Denver, CO (My Sportsbook) - The
Denver Nuggets seek their third straight win when they host the
San Antonio Spurs at Pepsi Center tonight.
San Antonio had its four-game winning streak snapped by the Seattle SuperSonics, 91-90, on Sunday.
Tim Duncan led San Antonio with 22 points, and David Robinson added 18 points and 17 rebounds, but the Spurs were doomed by a Brent Barry trey with just 4.7 seconds remaining. The crucial bucket capped an 18-5 Sonics' run that ultimately decided the outcome.
"It was a tough loss for us, a great win for Seattle," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "Both teams competed well. They caught fire down the stretch and hurt us with their zone defense. They knocked down their shots."
San Antonio is 3-3 on the road this season and has a 6-3 mark within the Western Conference.
Denver has put together back-to-back wins for the first time this season after a dramatic 80-79 victory over the Phoenix Suns. The Suns celebrated a bit too early, and the Nuggets made them pay.
Phoenix appeared to have the game won when Shawn Marion slammed home a dunk to make the score 79-78 with sixth-tenths of a second remaining. But Donnell Harvey chucked a football style pass all the way downcourt and Ryan Bowen made a layup just before the final buzzer to give the Nuggets their second last-second win in as many nights. At first, there was some question as to whether the shot should count, but the replay revealed the bucket beat the buzzer.
"When I threw it, it was right on the money and he got the layup for the win," Harvey said. "I used to play quarterback in high school, so it was neat to have a flashback."
Denver is now 4-4 within the Western Conference and has a 2-5 mark at home.
The Spurs have won six straight and 18 of the last 21 meetings between the teams. San Antonio has won eight of its last 10 at Denver and has a 77-47 lead in the all-time series.
