Allen Park, MI (My Sportsbook) - The Detroit Lions placed starting strong safety Brian Walker on injured reserve and released six players Sunday to get down to the NFL's roster limit of 53 players. Walker, a nine-year NFL veteran, had arthroscopic knee surgery on Friday. He started all 16 games for the second time in his career in 2003, and finished tied for the team-lead with a career-best 121 tackles (72 solos). The team released wide receiver David Kircus, a standout on Grand Valley State's 2002 NCAA Division II national championship team, as well as linebackers Michael Young and Andrew Battle, running back Avon Cobourne, fullback Stephen Trejo and receiver Reggie Swinton. Swinton was beat out by Eddie Drummond to be the team's return specialist during the preseason. Coach Steve Mariucci said some of the players waived Saturday and Sunday could be back on the team's eight-player practice squad. The Lions let 14 players go on Saturday.
