Chonburi, Thailand (My Sportsbook) - Suzann Pettersen and M.J. Hur fired six- under 66s Thursday to share the lead after the first round of the LPGA Tour's season-opening Honda PTT LPGA Thailand.
Pettersen and Hur, who both won last year, are one stroke clear of three players.
Ai Miyazato carded a five-under 67 at Siam Country Club and she was joined in third place by last year's runner-up Hee Young Park and Song-Hee Kim.
Defending champion and women's world No. 1 Loren Ochoa is three strokes off the pace as she opened with a three-under 69.
After opening with a birdie on the first, Pettersen cruised to the back nine with eight straight pars. Once on the back nine, it was more steady golf.
The six-time winner on the LPGA Tour birdied the 10th to move to minus-two. It was a hot closing stretch that gave Pettersen a share of the lead.
She rolled in a birdie effort on the par-four 15th and came back with a birdie on 17 to get within two of the lead. Pettersen closed that gap and joined Hur at minus-six as she kicked in a short eagle putt on the par-five 18th.
"I played pretty good golf all day. Gave myself a lot of chances," stated Pettersen, the 2007 champion. "I made some and tried to stay patient. When it finally turns around, you're able to make some moves."
Hur, who teed off some two hours before Pettersen, also started her round with a birdie on the first. She dropped in back-to-back birdie efforts from the fourth and drained her fourth birdie of the day on the eighth.
However, Hur tripped to a bogey on the ninth to turn in three-under. She quickly atoned for that mistake with a birdie on the par-five 10th.
After a trio of pars, Hur birdied the 14th and made it two straight with a birdie on the 15th. She closed with three consecutive pars to share the top spot.
"I played really solid today. Everything was perfect," said Hur. "Some holes, I was unlucky. For example, the last hole, I hit a 54-degree wedge from 70 yards and it hit the pin. It was a really good shot, but it kicked out to the right and I made par. I'm happy with my score."
Cristie Kerr opened with a four-under 68. She was joined in sixth place by Stacy Lewis, Kraft Nabisco champion Brittany Lincicome, Yani Tseng and Angela Stanford.
Ochoa shares 11th with Karrie Webb and Paula Creamer among others.
NOTES: This is the first of two straight events in Asia for the LPGA Tour...Hee-Won Han, the 2006 winner, opened with an even-par 72 and stands alongside Juli Inkster, Michelle Wie and five others.
