New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - The New York Yankees have added Marcus Thames with a one-year minor league contract that is reportedly worth $900,000 if he makes the major league roster. Thames is expected to compete with newly-added Randy Winn and Brett Gardner for playing time. Thames spent the last six seasons with the Tigers and hit .252 with 13 homers and 36 RBI in 87 games during the 2009 campaign. He was originally selected by the Yankees in the 1996 draft and played in seven games for the Bronx Bombers during the 2002 season. In 522 career games for the Yankees, Rangers and Tigers, Thames has a .243 batting average, 101 homers and 261 RBI. He has never appeared in over 110 games in a single season.
