East Rutherford, NJ (My Sportsbook) - The New York Giants got a much-needed boost on the offensive line on Tuesday, re-acquiring guard Jason Whittle from Tampa Bay for an undisclosed draft choice. Whittle, who signed with Tampa Bay as a free agent back in March of 2003, played for the Giants from 1998-2002. In 63 games, Whittle had 19 starts for the Giants, including 14 games during the 2002 campaign. Last season for the Bucs, the veteran out of Southwest Missouri State played in all 16 games, starting five at right guard. The acquisition of Whittle should strengthen an inexperienced offensive line, a unit that will need to protect an injury-prone Kurt Warner, who was named starting quarterback for the season opener against Philadelphia. In other roster news, New York released kicker Bill Gramatica, offensive lineman Mike Saffer and defensive lineman Delbert Cowsette. The release of Gramatica comes on the heels of head coach Tom Coughlin's decision to turn the kicking duties over to Todd France, who is yet to kick in an NFL regular season contest.
