Concord, NC (My Sportsbook) - NASCAR is considering the idea of replacing the rear wing on the current Sprint Cup Series cars -- the Car of Tomorrow -- with a spoiler to help improve competition. An announcement of the change could come prior to the season-opening Daytona 500 on February 14. "We are currently meeting with drivers and owners to discuss a number of options," NASCAR spokesperson Ramsey Poston said. "Going back to the spoiler is one of them under serious consideration. We'll make an announcement in the coming weeks." The wing has been a fixture of the new car since its debut in March, 2007 at Bristol Motor Speedway. NASCAR used the car for select races during the '07 season before running it full-time in 2008. Teams have raised concerns about the wing, since it has reduced downforce on the cars. The spoiler was used on the previous cars. NASCAR has been looking at ways to improve the new car, particularly after Carl Edwards' spectacular crash last April at Talladega Superspeedway. Edwards' car flew into the safety fence along the front stretch at Talladega on the final lap, injuring several fans in the grandstands. The incident raised concerns about the car.
