(My Sportsbook) - Two of the top teams in the East square off tonight down in Dixie, where the
Atlanta Hawks will play host to the
Cleveland Cavaliers in the opener of a home-and-home set at Philips Arena.
Atlanta will head to Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena on Wednesday.
The Central Division-leading Cavs have won four in a row and nine of their last 10 games, including Sunday's 108-83 victory at home over the Houston Rockets. Superstar LeBron James finished with 29 points, six assists and five rebounds, while Mo Williams added 20 points for Cleveland, which used a big third quarter to pull away for the win.
"Mo and I definitely came out aggressively on the offensive end and knocked down some threes. We just turned the game around," James noted.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 12 points and fellow big man Shaquille O'Neal recorded 13 points and 11 boards in a winning effort. The Cavaliers will put their 12-6 road mark on the line Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Hawks have won eight of their last 10 games and sit a half-game behind the Orlando Magic for the top spot in the Southeast Division. They are coming off Saturday's 110-98 victory over the Indiana Pacers in which Al Horford chipped in 25 points and a season-high 19 rebounds.
Joe Johnson added 24 points and Josh Smith scored 22 for the Hawks, who got 19 points out of Jamal Crawford and went 2-2 on a four-game road trip. Atlanta will now defend its 12-2 record at home this evening.
"We wanted to come out and hit them early and try to build a lead so our starters could get some rest," Johnson said. "We were very active tonight. We had more boost than normal. I think the couple of days off really helped."
The Cavs went 3-1 against the Hawks a season ago and have won 17 of the past 21 matchups between the teams. These two clubs have split the past 16 encounters in Atlanta.
