Orlando Magic resume a five- game homestand Monday hoping to avoid a season sweep at the hands of the Utah Jazz.
The Magic won the opener of their residency on Saturday when Dwight Howard continued to display his strong inside presence with 12 points, 20 rebounds and four blocks, as Orlando pulled away for a 92-83 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.
Rashard Lewis added 15 points, Jason Williams 13 and J.J. Redick 12 for the Magic, who won for the third time in four games and lead Atlanta by one-half game in the Southeast Division.
"Offensively I think we struggled but we made up for it on the defensive end," Howard said.
The Magic should get an extra boost tonight with the expected return of Jameer Nelson. The All-Star point guard, who hasn't suited up since having surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee on Nov. 18, is expected to come off the bench to spell Williams.
Orlando, which is an impressive 10-2 in central Florida, will finish its homestand with games against Houston, Boston and Milwaukee.
The Jazz, meanwhile, improved to 2-1 on a five-game road trip in Charlotte on Saturday when Carlos Boozer and Deron Williams each recorded a double-double, and CJ Miles and Paul Millsap were sparks off the bench, leading Utah to a 110-102 victory over the Bobcats.
Boozer ended with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Williams added 23 points and 10 helpers for the Jazz. Miles and Millsap chipped in 20 and 18 points, respectively, as the club bounced back from a 96-83 loss at Atlanta on Friday.
Utah, which is 5-7 as the visitor, finishes its trek in Miami on Wednesday.
The Jazz snapped a two-game skid to the Magic with a 120-111 triumph in Salt Lake City on Dec. 10.
