Athens, Greece (My Sportsbook) - American heavyweight Devin Vargas was eliminated from the Olympics after a quarterfinal loss to Viktar Zuyev of Belarus at Peristeri Olympic Hall Sunday night. Vargas' loss leaves the Americans with just three boxers remaining in competition: middleweight Andre Dirrell, light heavyweight Andre Ward and super heavyweight Jason Estrada. Vargas fell behind 8-6 after the first round, remained within two points after a 9-9 tie in the second, but fell apart after that. Zuyev went on to win the next two rounds by scores of 12-6 and 7-6. |
