Calgary, AB (My Sportsbook) - Suzann Pettersen posted a three-under 68 Friday to match Song-Hee Kim atop the leaderboard after two rounds of the CN Canadian Women's Open.
Kim fired a nine-under 62 to set the tournament's 18-hole scoring record. Pettersen and Kim completed 36 holes at nine-under-par 133.
Kim's 62 broke the old record of 64 that was posted eight times on four separate courses. This is the first time Priddis Greens is hosting the tournament.
Catriona Matthew (66) and women's world No. 1 Lorena Ochoa (68) are tied for third place at minus-eight. Ochoa, the 2008 champion, bogeyed two of the last three holes to fall out of sole possession of the lead.
Angela Stanford (65), Sun Young Yoo (66) and M.J. Hur (67) share fifth place at seven-under-par 135.
First-round leader Anna Rawson stumbled to a two-over 73 to slide into a tie for 10th place at five-under-par 137.
Pettersen, who is winless since her five-win 2007 campaign, started on the back nine and drained consecutive 10-foot birdie putts to move to minus-eight. She made it three in a row when she two-putted for birdie on the par-five 12th.
The 28-year-old hit her approach over the green at the 13th and could not save par from there. Pettersen kicked in a two-footer for birdie on 15, but gave that shot right back with a bogey on 16.
Pettersen rolled in a 15-footer for birdie on two. She birdied the fourth and fifth, both for the second straight day, to climb to 11-under. However, she missed the green at the seventh and walked off with bogey, then three-putted for bogey on the eighth.
"I tried to play my own game. I got off to a great start," said Pettersen, who was in the first group to tee off the 10th Friday. "I had three birdies on my first three holes. I gave myself a lot of putts, and I was rolling the putts nicely. A few kind of annoying bogeys out there, especially the two coming in. But like I said, there's a lot more golf to be played."
Kim exploded up the leaderboard early in her round as she birdied the first six holes. She drained 15-footers for birdie on one, three and four, while sinking a 20-foot effort on two.
The 21-year-old, who is looking for her first LPGA Tour win, got up and down for birdie on five, then rolled in another 15-foot birdie effort at six to get to six-under.
"I thought I couldn't make all the birdie putts, even though I hit it my second shot on the green and make a birdie," Kim said. "I didn't know I had six birdies in a row, it was awesome. I mean it was fantastic."
Kim traded a birdie for a bogey from the ninth. She birdied the par-five 12th for the second straight day, then sank back-to-back three-foot birdie chances on 16 and 17 to gain a share of the lead.
"I didn't think I could have even shot nine-under par today," said Kim, when asked if she thought about shooting 59.
Janice Moodie (65) and Yani Tseng (67) are tied for eighth place at six-under- par 136. Rawson shares 10th at minus-five with Sophie Gustafson (68), Jiyai Shin (65), In-Kyung Kim (68) and 1999 winner Karrie Webb (68).
The cut line fell at one-over-par 143 with 74 players moving on to the weekend. Among those who missed the cut were 2008 champion Katherine Hull, Meg Mallon, Michelle Wie and Laura Davies.
