Chicago Cubs made a pair of roster moves on Monday, releasing both catcher Paul Bako and relief pitcher Mike Stanton.
Bako signed with the Cubs in late January after spending last season with Cincinnati. He set career highs with six homers, 35 runs batted in and 30 runs scored while hitting just .217 in 99 games with the Reds.
An 11-year veteran, Bako is a career .231 hitter, totaling 21 homers, 186 RBI and 183 runs scored over 745 games. That includes a stint with the Cubs in 2003-04.
The 36-year-old journeyman has played with 10 different clubs, including the Tigers, Astros, Braves, Marlins, Brewers, Cubs, Dodgers, Royals, Orioles and Reds.
Stanton, meanwhile, hasn't pitched in the majors since 2007 with the Reds. He went 1-3 in 69 games that year, but posted a 5.93 earned run average. The left-hander has a career mark of 68-63 in 1,178 career games with the Braves, Red Sox, Rangers, Yankees, Mets, Nationals, Giants and Reds, recording a 3.92 ERA in that span.
