San Jose, CA (My Sportsbook) - Marc-Edouard Vlasic scored the eventual game- winning goal halfway through the second period, as the San Jose Sharks took a 4-2 victory over the
Los Angeles Kings at HP Pavilion.
Lukas Kaspar, Patrick Marleau and Milan Michalek tallied for the Sharks, who improved to 2-0 on a three-game homestand. Rob Blake and Joe Thornton ended with two helpers apiece. Evgeni Nabokov stopped 30 shots to secure his 21st win of the season.
Michal Handzus and Alexander Frolov scored for the Kings, who dropped to 5-2-2 this month. Erik Ersberg turned away 36 shots in the loss.
Kaspar lit the lamp just 34 seconds into the game to put San Jose ahead, but Los Angeles tied the game with a goal from Handzus at the 4:24 mark.
The Sharks then scored with 1:57 remaining in the first period, as Marleau chipped away at a lose puck in front of the net and finally got a shot past Ersberg for his 33rd of the year.
Just 3:53 into the second frame, Frolov tallied on the power-play to tie the game at two. A Dustin Brown shot was deflected by Patrick O'Sullivan and the puck trickled to an open Frolov, who tucked it in the open right side of the net.
San Jose took a 3-2 lead at the 10:51 mark on a power-play goal from Vlasic. Vlasic drilled a slap shot from the point after a Thornton shot was deflected by Blake in front of the net. The rebound found its way to an open Vlasic.
The Sharks built a 4-2 cushion on a score from Michalek with 6:49 to go in the frame. Joe Pavelski hit Michalek, who was charging in from the left side, with a perfect pass and Michalek finished the play off. San Jose took the lead into the final period.
A Blake penalty with 1:22 remaining put the Kings on the power play. Los Angeles pulled the goalie to gain a 6-on-4 advantage, but the Sharks killed off the man advantage to seal the win.
