Montreal, QC (My Sportsbook) - When the Montreal Canadiens embark on a two- game road trip beginning Wednesday, one player who will not be with the club is star forward Alex Kovalev. The Montreal Gazette reported on Tuesday that Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey announced that Kovalev will not make the Habs' two-game road swing through Washington and Pittsburgh. Gainey told the club after a practice session that Kovalev wasn't going to help the team and told him to take a few days away, citing the Russian veteran's apparent lack of energy and emotion. Gainey added that he will evaluate the situation at the end of the week, but said that there was no guarantees the Habs' captain would be in the lineup for Saturday's tilt against Ottawa. Kovalev, the All-Star Game's most valuable player, has compiled 13 goals and 39 points in 57 games thus far this season. |
