St. Louis Rams wide receiver Isaac Bruce,
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Julian Peterson and
New Orleans Saints special teamer Steve Gleason were named NFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for the 10th week of the NFL season.
Bruce had 10 receptions for 163 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-24 win over the San Diego Chargers. Bruce hauled in a seven-yard TD catch with 1:14 left to put the Rams ahead for good. His 10 receptions were the most since he recorded 11 against San Francisco on November 21, 1999.
Peterson highlighted the Niners' defense against a high-powered Kansas City offense in a 17-13 victory. Peterson held All-Pro tight end Tony Gonzalez to one catch for six yards. On 4th-and-11 with the Chiefs driving, Peterson knocked away Trent Green's pass intended for Gonzalez.
Gleason blocked a punt late in the third quarter to set up Deuce McAllister's four-yard TD run that gave New Orleans the lead. The Saints defeated Carolina, 34-24. Gleason's blocked punt was the first for New Orleans since November 16, 1997 when Chris Hewitt blocked one against the Seattle Seahawks.
Other nominees for Offensive Player of the Week were New York Giants running back Tiki Barber, quarterback Kerry Collins and wide receiver Ron Dixon, Minnesota Vikings running back Michael Bennett, Atlanta Falcons running back Warrick Dunn, wide receiver Shawn Jefferson and quarterback Michael Vick, St. Louis Rams quarterback Marc Bulger and wide receiver Torry Holt, Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre and receiver Donald Driver and New Orleans Saints wide receiver Joe Horn.
Meanwhile, Green Bay safety Marques Anderson, Chicago Bears defensive end Alex Brown and New Orleans defensive end Charles Grant were also considered for the Defensive Player of the Week Award.
Nominees for Special Teams Player of the Week were Rams punter Mitch Berger and kicker Jeff Wilkins, Seattle Seahawks punter Jeff Feagles, Falcons special teamer/wide receiver Brian Finneran and Packers kicker Ryan Longwell.
