Oakland Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon,
Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney and
Baltimore Ravens kick returner Lamont Brightful have been named the Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, for the tenth week of the NFL season.
Gannon, who led the Raiders to a 34-10 victory over the Denver Broncos on Monday night, broke the 19-year-old NFL single-game record for most consecutive completions by connecting on 21 attempts in a row to surpass former Cincinnati quarterback Ken Anderson. Gannon completed 34 of 38 attempts for 352 yards with three touchdowns without an interception.
The University of Delaware product and Philadelphia native earned his fifth Player of the Week Award.
Freeney, who leads the Colts in sacks with five, made his first career start on Sunday in Indianapolis' 35-13 upset victory in Philadelphia and posted seven tackles, one sack and three forced fumbles.
The most notable tackle Freeney made was downfield in pursuit of Philadelphia quarter Donovan McNabb, who had gained 14 yards until met by Freeney and fumbled.
The Syracuse product collected the award for he first time his career and became the third rookie this season to earn the AFC Defensive Player of the Week Award.
Brightful, another rookie who earned his first honor, stood out in Baltimore's 38-27 win over Cincinnati. The lightest player in the NFL at 160 pounds returned three punts for 103 yards, including a franchise record 95-yard return for a touchdown, the longest punt return in the NFL this season. The sixth-round selection from Eastern Washington also returned three kickoffs for 98 yards.
Other nominees for the offensive award were New England quarterback Tom Brady, Pittsburgh wide receiver Plaxico Burress, Indianapolis wide receiver Marvin Harrison, Kansas City wide receiver Eddie Kennison, Baltimore running back Jamal Lewis, Pittsburgh quarterback Tommy Maddox, Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning and Indianapolis running back James Mungro.
On the defensive side of the ball, Tennessee linebacker Keith Bulluck, Baltimore linebacker Ed Hartwell, Pittsburgh linebacker Joey Porter and Oakland safety Rod Woodson were also considered.
Pittsburgh punter Josh Miller and New England kicker Adam Vinatieri were also nominated for AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
In addition, Raiders wide receiver Jerry Rice, who scored his NFL-record 200th and 201st career touchdowns in the 500th Monday Night Football telecast, has become the fifth recipient of the NFL "Prime Time" Player of the Week Award.
