Chicago, IL (My Sportsbook) - The Cleveland Indians have reportedly signed right-handed reliever Kerry Wood to a two-year contract with a vesting option for a third season according to the Chicago Tribune. Financial terms of the deal are unknown. The Detroit Tigers were also believed to be interested in signing Wood. After battling back from shoulder problems that limited him to 14 starts from 2005-07, Wood enjoyed a resurgence as the Chicago Cubs' closer this past season, as he saved 34 games, while pitching to a 3.26 earned run average. He finished the year 5-4 and struck out 84 batters in 66 1/3 innings. Wood, who was selected by Chicago with the fourth overall pick of the 1995 draft, was the National League Rookie of the Year in 1998, but his career has been plagued by injuries. He missed all of the 1999 campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery and has been on and off the disabled list for the better part of the last five seasons. For his career, the 31-year-old Wood has posted a 77-61 record with a 3.65 ERA in 276 games, 178 of which have been starts, over 10 seasons with the Cubs.
