Calgary, AB (My Sportsbook) - Erik Cole scored the first of three second- period, power-play tallies for Edmonton, and the Oilers held on to beat the Calgary Flames, 4-3, in the opener of a home-and-home at Pengrowth Saddledome.

Lubomir Visnovsky added a goal and an assist, while Robert Nilsson and Andrew Cogliano also lit the lamp for the Oilers, who remained perfect in the young season by winning their third straight game.

Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers, making his NHL debut, made 26 saves in the win for the Oilers.

"He looked fairly sharp early. He looked comfortable and that's the one thing I wanted to see in him," Oilers coach Craig MacTavish said of Drouin- Deslauriers. "It's a learning process here and it takes a lot of courage to stand in an NHL net under these circumstances and you need the experience and that was the first step for getting him the experience."

David Moss, Adrian Aucoin and Todd Bertuzzi each scored once for Calgary, which has dropped three of four to start the 2008-09 campaign.

Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 31-of-35 shots in the loss for the Flames.

Aucoin and Cogliano scored in the first period to make it a 1-1 game after 20 minutes, and Moss' tally just 5:39 into the second frame gave the Flames a 2-1 edge.

But shortly after the Moss goal, Calgary's Craig Conroy was whistled for a hooking minor and the Oilers took advantage. Sheldon Souray let loose a slapshot from above the left circle that Cole tipped and redirected past Kiprusoff at 6:30.

About five minutes later, Edmonton skated on another power play courtesy of Bertuzzi's holding penalty. This time Visnovsky ripped a slapshot from near the center of the blue line that beat Kiprusoff high to give the Oilers a 3-2 lead at 11:39.

Then, with just 3:55 left in the second period Nilsson scored and Edmonton went into the second intermission with a two-goal lead.

"When you prep a team you try to go over all the aspects of the game in terms of your prep, what the opposition is doing, but it's very difficult to prep a team when there is an onslaught of penalties called against you," Calgary head coach Mike Keenan said. "We didn't prepare for that because we didn't expect it."

But the power-play trend reversed in the third frame, as Edmonton was whistled for three penalties. Nilsson got sent to the penalty box early on for high- sticking, and before his penalty ended teammate Denis Grebeshkov got called for tripping.

There was an overlap of nine seconds on the Nilsson and Grebeshkov penalties, and though Edmonton killed off the first one successfully, Calgary eventually took advantage.

With the Flames pressing in the Oilers zone, Bertuzzi grabbed a rebound on the right side of the net and skated as though he'd go behind the goal. But he stayed on the right and tucked the disc in the net as Drouin-Deslauriers was twisted up.

The goal, coming at 7:23, brought the Flames back within one, but they couldn't net the equalizer. An interference call on Cole gave Calgary a power play with less than five minutes left, but the club wasn't able to get a shot across the goal line.

Game Notes

Souray left the game with an unspecified injury...Calgary defenseman Robyn Regehr left the game briefly after getting hit in the throat with a puck, but returned...The Oilers have won three of the last four games between the teams at Calgary...The teams split eight games last season...Souray and Ales Hemsky each ended with a pair of helpers for Edmonton...Bertuzzi has four goals this season.
