Calgary, AB (My Sportsbook) - The Calgary Flames have acquired left winger Ville Nieminen from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Jason Morgan and a conditional draft choice. Nieminen played in all 60 games with Chicago this season, scoring two goals to go along with 11 assists. The 6'1", 208-pound forward has posted 83 points (36 goals, 47 assists) in 252 NHL career games. The native of Tampere, Finland was originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche with the 78th overall pick in the 1997 Entry Draft. In his rookie season in 2000-01, Nieminen played in all 23 playoff games with the Avalanche en-route to a Stanley Cup championship. Nieminen led all NHL rookies that season in playoff points (10), goals (4), assists (6), power play goals (3), power play points (4), shots (39) and games played. Nieminen was traded to Pittsburgh by Colorado with Rick Berry for Darius Kasparaitis in March 2002 and signed as a free agent with Chicago before this season. Morgan was playing for Lowell in the American Hockey League. He appeared in six games for the Nashville Predators this year and had two assists and two penalty minutes. In his NHL career, Morgan has played in 20 games scoring one goal and adding two assists for three points.
