Milwaukee, WI (My Sportsbook) - Charlie Villanueva poured in a season-high 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and the shorthanded
Milwaukee Bucks downed the Seattle SuperSonics, 118-106.
The Bucks played without the services of guard Mo Williams and forward Yi Jianlian for the entire game, and lost Michael Redd in the third quarter to a nose laceration. Redd did not return, scoring 15 points in 28 minutes. Williams (abdominal strain) and Yi (sprained left ankle) were both listed as day-to-day.
Andrew Bogut scored 21 points and raked in 13 boards for the Bucks, who stemmed a three-game losing streak. Charlie Bell added 17 points off the bench, and Desmond Mason scored 16 points for Milwaukee.
Kevin Durant scored 23 points to pace the Sonics, who have dropped two straight and six of seven. Earl Watson scored 17 points and tallied eight assists, and Damien Wilkins also scored 17 for Seattle.
The Sonics trailed 98-83 entering the fourth quarter, before coming back with a late surge. Seattle launched on a 14-2 run late in the frame, and a running hook shot from Wilkins cut the Bucks lead to 107-102 with 2:49 remaining. Bell dropped in a layup, though, and Milwaukee scored seven straight to ice the win.
"We were aggressive the whole game but we just didn't get stops," said Durant. "We started going to the basket in the second half and we started to draw some fouls. We got it back but unfortunately we couldn't pull it out."
Villanueva and the Bucks exploded early, and Seattle never recovered. Villanueva scored 10 points on a 14-0 Milwaukee run, including two three- pointers. His second three capped the run, and gave the Bucks a 34-18 lead with 2:09 left in the first quarter.
"I was feeling good. I've been struggling all year on threes and I've been working on it," said Villanueva, who made 3-of-6 threes. He was shooting 25.8 percent from behind the arc entering play. "I can make the threes and I never lost confidence. I was struggling at one point, but I kept working on them and it paid off today."
Milwaukee led 39-24 after the first quarter.
Seattle cut the deficit to 10 points midway through the second quarter, but Villanueva responded with a dunk, cueing seven straight points by the Bucks, and two Villanueva free throws put Milwaukee ahead 53-46 with 5:20 left in the half.
The Bucks led 69-54 at the half.
