Pau Gasol had 20 points and eight boards for the Grizzlies, who extended their season-high skid to six games. Bonzi Wells contributed 16 points in the loss before leaving the game with an apparent concussion. Memphis led 29-28 after the first quarter, but the Pacers used a 7-0 spurt to start the second period and grab a six-point edge. The Grizzlies battled back and seized a 39-36 lead on three free throws by James Posey, but the game was knotted at 53-53 at halftime. Jeff Foster's slam dunk with 4:47 left in the third quarter gave Indiana a 67-66 advantage and Ron Artest's basket moments later stretched the lead to five points. The Pacers ended the period on a 12-2 run and enjoyed a 75-68 lead after three frames. Artest's two free throws with 7:46 left in the game staked Indiana to an 83-72 lead and the Grizzlies never seriously threatened again. Stromile Swift scored 15 points and Jason Williams had 11 points and 11 assists in the loss. Memphis has lost seven straight road games. The Grizzlies host the Seattle SuperSonics tonight. |
