Montreal, QC (My Sportsbook) - The
Tampa Bay Lightning try to halt a four- game winless streak tonight when they visit the
Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre.
Tampa is 0-2-2 in its last four and trails first-place Atlanta by one point in the Southeast Division standings. On Saturday the Lightning dropped a 2-1 decision to the Thrashers with the top spot on the line.
Atlanta's J.P. Vigier tallied a power-play goal with 4:57 remaining in the third period to complete a comeback and provide the final margin. Dan Boyle scored the lone goal for the Lightning, who had won three straight before their current lull. John Grahame made 18 saves in a losing effort.
The Lightning lost their first game of the year when leading after two periods (8-1-1), as well as their first one when scoring first (10-1-2-0).
Tampa Bay has been outscored by a 6-3 margin during its winless slide, and the team's offensive attack has accounted for two goals or less in seven of the last nine games. Cornerstone Vincent Lecavalier hasn't scored in six consecutive contests.
The Lightning, 3-2-2 on the road, will host Ottawa on Thursday.
Montreal, meanwhile, opened a brief homestand Saturday with a 1-1 tie versus Florida. The Panthers' Viktor Kozlov scored his first power-play goal of the year with just 1:12 remaining to force the deadlock.
Michael Ryder tallied the lone Montreal marker earlier in the third, and Jose Theodore stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced for the Canadiens, who recorded their fifth point in their last four games (2-1-1).
The Habs, who sit last in the Northeast Division with 23 points, are 5-6-2 at home this season. They'll visit Carolina on Friday to start a home-and-home.
Tampa Bay went 3-0-1 against Montreal last season and has won three-of-four and six-of-nine on the road in the series.
