New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Kevin Durant poured in 30 points and the Seattle SuperSonics downed the
New York Knicks, 117-110.
Jeff Green scored 17 points to lead a banner night for the Seattle bench, as four reserves scored in double-figures. Bench players Luke Ridnour and Wally Szczerbiak added 12 points apiece for the Sonics, who stemmed a quick two-game slide.
Jamal Crawford scored 29 points for the Knicks, who have dropped four straight, and five of six. Zach Randolph scored a season-high 27 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for the Knicks, and David Lee added 16 points and seven boards. Stephon Marbury sat for the second straight game. Marbury's father, Donald, died on Dec. 2.
Marbury played in the first two games following his father's funeral, but has missed the last two, and isn't likely to return to the team until next week.
Seattle pulled away late in the neck-and-neck game. A Kurt Thomas three-point play extended the Sonics lead to 108-103, but Randolph made two free throws to cut the deficit to three points with 2:10 to play. Durant answered by draining a jumper, and Thomas followed with a jumper of his own, and the Seattle lead was pushed to 112-105, the Sonics' largest lead of the game.
Crawford drove the lane, drew a foul, and made a floater at the other end of the court, though, and after he made his free throw the Knicks trailed 112-108 with 1:17 left.
Durant always had the answer, though, this time stalling at the top of the key before beating two Knicks off the dribble, driving around the lane, and slamming in a dunk with 56 seconds left to push the Sonics back ahead, 114-108.
"I think we all were in a groove," said Durant. "The same guys were getting rebounds, getting and-ones, making shots, and playing hard defensively. We've just got to bring it every night."
Crawford made a steal and threw down a dunk of his own, making it a four-point game with 39.2 ticks left, but that was as close as New York would get. After Earl Watson made one-of-two free throws, Crawford again went to the bucket, but this time was hit with an offensive foul.
Szczerbiak made two free throws with 33.2 seconds left to give Seattle a seven-point lead, and the chants of "Fire Isiah," in reference to New York's beleaguered coach and team president, grew louder from the crowd as the final seconds of another Knicks loss ticked away.
"We couldn't get over the hump," said Crawford. "We'd get back to one and they'd make a play ... We were like that for two minutes."
The Knicks led 31-27 after the first quarter and, after a Crawford driving layup in the final seconds of the half, took a 56-53 lead into the break.
The Sonics pushed on top in the third quarter, and took an 83-79 lead into the fourth.
