Corvallis, OR (My Sportsbook) - Former Oregon State football coach Dee Andros died Wednesday at the age of 79. Andros, nicknamed "The Great Pumpkin," suffered from severe diabetes and also had several strokes. He led the Beavers to some of the biggest wins in Oregon State football history and finished with a 51-64-1 record in 11 seasons as head coach. He took over for the legendary Tommy Prothro in 1965. Andros earned the nickname "The Great Pumpkin" for his trademark girth and bright orange jacket. Andros was OSU's athletic director from 1975 until his retirement in 1985. In 1967, the Beavers defeated O.J. Simpson and No. 1 Southern California in a game that earned them the nickname of the "Giant Killers." USC didn't lose again that season and won the national championship. Andros was a lineman on Oklahoma teams coached by Hall of Famer Bud Wilkinson.
