Phoenix, AZ (My Sportsbook) - The
Phoenix Suns try for their first win of the young season when they welcome the
Cleveland Cavaliers to America West Arena.
Cleveland bounced back from a season-opening loss to the Sacramento Kings with a 98-96 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. Ricky Davis paced Cleveland with 25 points. Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 19 points, including the deciding 10-foot jumper with 2.8 seconds remaining, and Tyrone Hill chipped in with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Cavs coach John Lucas missed the game, as he was serving the second game of a two-game suspension. Assistant Jerry Eaves took over, and certainly liked what he saw.
"This was a good confidence builder for the whole group," Eaves said. "This is all about improvement."
Former Clipper Darius Miles stung his old team with 15 points and five rebounds.
"It felt good out there, real good," Miles said.
Phoenix opened its season with an 86-73 setback at Seattle. Shawn Marion scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the losing effort.
"We weren't doing the things in the second half that we did in the first half to get the lead," Marion said. "[Seattle's Brent] Barry had a good game. Coach said not to leave him open. He can shoot the ball. We left him open and he made shots."
Penny Hardaway started in place of Stephon Marbury and scored 16 points. Marbury was serving a one-game suspension after his summer drunken driving conviction. He is expected to play tonight.
Phoenix has won five of the last nine meetings between the teams and has a 47-32 lead in the all-time series. The Cavs have lost three straight at America West Arena.
