Chicago, IL (My Sportsbook) - The
Chicago Bulls play their first home game of the season and try to remain undefeated when they take on the
New Orleans Hornets at the United Center Friday.
Chicago stunned the Boston Celtics at FleetCenter in their season-opener on Wednesday, pulling out a 99-96 victory. Trenton Hassell scored eight points down the stretch to help Chicago rally for the win.
Hassell's flurry late in the fourth quarter helped the Bulls overcome an 84-80 deficit to start the period. He finished with 14 points. Donyell Marshall added 16 points and nine rebounds off the bench, scoring eight straight points early in the fourth.
Jalen Rose finished with 21 points and 12 assists to lead the Bulls, who registered their third win in four games against Boston. Jay Williams added 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in his NBA debut. Williams, Chicago's first pick in June's draft, was 6-for-9 from the field, but 0-for-5 from the line.
Eddie Robinson chipped in with 10 points in 18 minutes for the Bulls, who earned their first win on opening night since November 1, 1996, when they also beat Boston.
The Hornets won their first game in their new city of New Orleans Wednesday, as Baron Davis scored 21 points and handed out 10 assists to lead the team to a 100-75 victory over the Utah Jazz -- New Orleans' former team. The Hornets relocated to New Orleans from Charlotte in the offseason.
Courtney Alexander had 19 points and Jamal Mashburn chipped in 16 points and nine rebounds for the Hornets, who outscored the Jazz 32-11 in the fourth quarter. David Wesley collected 15 points for New Orleans.
Pete Maravich, who starred for the New Orleans Jazz, had his No. 7 jersey retired in a ceremony held at halftime at New Orleans Arena.
The Hornets have dominated this series recently, winning the last four meetings and 13 of the previous 14. The Hornets have also won two straight at Chicago and five of their last six in the Windy City.
