Seattle, WA (My Sportsbook) - The Seattle SuperSonics brought former first- round draft choice Jack Sikma back to the organization on Thursday, hiring him as a special assignments coach. Sikma, who still holds Sonics career-records for rebounding and free-throws- made, will support Seattle's coaches with scouting, working out players and assisting the teams' centers. The 6-foot-11 Sikma primarily played center during his 14-year pro career, making seven All-Star teams. He was selected with the eighth overall pick in the 1977 NBA Draft out of Illinois Wesleyan University. "As a special assignments coach, Jack will perform a variety of duties," said Sonics General Manager Rick Sund. "One of his major responsibilities is to aid in the growth and development of our centers." Sikma still ranks second in blocked shots, third in points (12,034) and fourth in games played (715) all-time for the Sonics. He helped lead Seattle to its only championship, over the Washington Bullets in the 1979 NBA Finals, with 14.8 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. After nine seasons in Seattle, Sikma was traded to Milwaukee, where he played until his retirement in 1991. His No. 43 jersey was retired by the Sonics in 1992.
